Being diagnosed with breast cancer will initially be shocking. However, the chances of a recovery can be very good. They especially depend on how advanced the cancer is.
Your screening physician will discuss the results of your mammogram and further proceedings with you in person. If you so desire, your treating gynaecologist or general practitioner may be involved.
The goal is for you to be treated at a qualified clinic.
Most women will be advised to undergo surgery. During surgery the tumour and surrounding tissue will be removed, and in rare cases the entire breast. Other treatment options are radiation, hormonetherapy and chemotherapy. Your treatment options also depend on the actual diagnosis.
