Can the mammogram protect me from breast cancer?

The examination through the Mammography Screening Program can't prevent a woman from developing breast cancer. However, the mammogram can detect breast cancer in its early stages, thus increasing a woman's chances of full recovery. Early stages of breast cancer can also typically be treated using much gentler methods (typically without a mastectomy, typically without removing much of the underarm and often times without chemotherapy).
